Coco Gordon

Coco Gordon, aka SuperSkyWoman, is a holocaust survivor who emigrated to New York City in 1939. An artist/poet/publisher and certified permaculture designer, she now lives and teaches permaculture design in Colorado.

Coco has vast and varied experience across the spectrum of art and ecosocial design. She is a Transition Town Lyons Initiator in Colorado, growing permaculture-certified forces by teaching permaculture for Parks & Recreation and at Willow Way, promoting “Do Local Daily" and offering Nature WalkTalks. She is also active writing innovative interactive books as eco-commentary, sponsored by her watermark, Press, Papers & Permaculture.

In 1986 Coco won the Susan B. Anthony Award for her project, WindowPeace. She has also been honored by numerous invitations to incubate in art residencies, the most recent being at the Emily Harvey Foundation in Venice, Italy, where her work included an exhibit of seventy local-recycling-assemblages at Bevilacqua LaMasa Gallery in St Marks Square. Her international permacultural eco-art projects, collaborations, publications and Biennale participations continue.

Deeply engaged with regional policy, Coco has influenced the Lyons’ Comprehensive Plan, penning in solid sponsorship/education of permaculture, economic localization, food-shed, 0-waste and water regeneration. She has also been chosen to serve the Biocouncil formulating its next Bioregional Congress (CBCXI). An avid documentarian, Coco has documented unique appropriate tech such as The Farm‘s shitake production, biochar process and radiant energy technology.

Coco continues to dream big. Her visioning includes artist-permaculture systems demonstrations that relocate public policy to bioregion-wide incubators, recognition for children as earth guardians and GMO-free towns. Among her perennial permaculture plans are to design place-making community activities for seniors and to create 'un-megamachine' courses using all species representation.

Gaia U has gifted me with brilliant associates, advisors and action-leaders; a Bioregional-like ceremonial-village family; motivating education experiences; awesome outposts; enjoined buddy-guilds; and deep belief in draft-writings we change together with inter-spiraling synergies. Through GU I’m encouraged to define my integrative SuperSkyWoman being within, and radiate action un/learning. Gaia U is a perfect medium to dovetail systems research with Nature’s voice – interfaced with the greater community.
