Gaia University offers a unique approach to higher learning by offering students (called Associates) access to accredited Bachelors and Masters degrees and Graduate Diplomas whilst the Associate is actively engaged in self and planetary transformation. Linking your ideals with self-directed practical experience, you act as a world changer, by working for local and global sustainability and regeneration, justice and peace.

Our self-directed action learning methodology enables you to study locally, at work or on project, in your own language, supported by Gaia University's Regional Organizers, and a worldwide network of learning providers, tutors and mentors.

No longer do you have to choose between earning a living and studying. With action learning your work and your projects become your places of study.

Gaia U Shines at 10th Annual Village Building Convergence
in Portland, Oregon, USA

vbc10_mariners_compass_rose_ir_aerial_shot_of_compass_1.jpgGaia University was a potent presence at City Repair’s 10th annual Village Building Convergence in Portland, Oregon, May 28th  – June 6th. A combined permaculture and natural building conference, giant volunteer work-party and deep exercise in community building, the VBC brings together world-changers from across the country and around the world to share their knowledge and collaborate on local projects. Sites throughout Portland combine urban ‘placemaking’ initiatives with public workshop offerings that run the gamut from eco-roof construction to rainwater catchment to mushroom cultivation. This year’s evening festivities featured a community feast, live music, and presentations from leading ecosocial actionists such as Starhawk, Mark Lakeman and Transition PDX. Also among the keynote speakers were James Stark and Penny Livingston, the founders of Gaia University’s newest regional center, Gaia RDI, and Gaia University Co-presidents, Andrew Langford and Liora Adler.

Trent Rhode Wins Scholarship to Gaia University

trent_rhode.jpg

When the Country of POiU Initiative, a value exchange project with its own complementary currency, offered to fund a half-scholarship for a Gaia University associate to consult on both technical and ecological issues, Trent Rhode, a Gaia U master’s candidate, felt he would be an excellent fit. "I have been using computers as a primary form of expression – digital imaging, web design, communication and writing – most of my life. I am also an experienced permaculture designer and instructor.”

At an organizational level, Gaia University is itself an excellent fit with POiU, as Gaia U strongly encourages the research and development of systems that make it possible for people to grant each other mutual credit to fund projects of ecosocial merit. The term 'mutual credit' means that all participants in the system agree to support the value and usefulness of the currency for themselves and each other; the currency is 'backed' by the mutual trust and integrity of its users.
