Ethan is the principle and sole proprietor of AppleSeed Permaculture. Through this business he offers consulting services in the areas of design, teaching, and research. He helps to organize the Hudson Valley Permaculture scene and the Northeastern Permaculture Network , and serves on the Boards of Permaculture Across Borders , the Apios Institute, and the Mindful Living Initiative .
Ethan has co-taught permaculture design courses with Geoff Lawton, Jono Neiger, and Dave Jacke, in locales from New York to Massachussetts to Thailand. He was the recipient of a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship to study the global diversity of apples, and an Ariel G. Loewy Research award for excellence in biochemsitry.
He has delivered more than 25 national and international invited lectures and workshops on ecological design sustainable agriculture, and global apple production. His current research interests include carbon negative perennial agriculture, while the leading focus of his Gaia University MSc degree work is collaboration—co-creative research, design, and implementation
strategies for regenerating external/physical and internal/emotional
landscapes.
