Gaia University:
Coming to the West Coast, USA!

andyandliora.jpg

Jay Markert of Gaia University was asked this year to organize the EcoVillage section of the Harmony Festival in Santa Rosa California from June 12th to 14th.

There is an amazing lineup of keynote speakers. Gaia U's own Andrew Langford and Liora Adler will join Starhawk, Richard Heinberg and Joanna Macy. During their keynote talk, Liora and Andrew will be addressing “Cultural remediation and the insurrection of subjugated knowledge.”

They will also be leading workshops at the Village Building Convergence (VBC) in Portland Oregon from June 10-11. For all you fortunate enough to be just a hop and a skip away, I plan to live vicariously through your attendance at these two incredible gatherings! You can also catch Liora and Andy on the airwaves (or in the archives), June 3, 7p.m. PST on the Laura Fox Radio Show from Visionary Culture.

Harmony Festival has been running for about 31 years with over 35,000 attendees.
The topic Liora and Andy will speak on: Cultural remediation and the insurrection of subjugated knowledge is at the heart of Gaia University’s vision as an alternative to traditional higher education and to the resistance positive change movements often experience from the scientific and academic communities.

In its mildest forms this resistance may take the form of demands for proof that the grass roots thinking and action will work: “Where is the quantitative scientific evidence?" they may ask and, "Which schools in which universities/professional societies think this way?" thus giving their support to the notion that ony the thinking derived from these august (and often degenerating) bodies is of value. Meanwhile the people on the sharp end of life surviving cultural deterioration and seeking to organize tools for remediation remain starved of resources and the effective alliance of enabling institutions.

Finding solutions to these dilemnas will be the main focus of the keynote. Join the Gaia University founders and associates at the Harmony Festival EcoVillage and add to the discussion of this important theme.

During the Harmony Fest Liora and Andrew will also be participating on panels and in workshops focused on the Transition Town movement, Forest Gardens and Bioregionalism.

The festival has an incredibly comprehensive website for your perusal at harmonyfestival.com . It includes linkups for rideshares, camping info, directions as well as a full schedule for the festival.
The EcoVillage section of the Harmony Fest will include “educational exhibits and workshops on Permaculture, green building, bee keeping, alternative fuels and more… highlighting Eco City-, Eco Village- and Urban Greening-designs from renowned architects and visionaries around the world. Existing designs, designs-in-progress and visionary cities of the future will be on display throughout the Eco Village.” For a more in depth description of the EcoVillage follow this link .

The Village Building Convergence (VBC) is a week-long gathering which focuses on workshops and practical applications of permaculture and natural building- often by performing intersection makeovers on the spot! The VBC is organized by the City Repair Project which I strongly recommend checking out if you haven’t already heard of them and their work. Andy and Liora will be giving two workshops at the VBC from June 10-11 in Ashland, Oregon, titled, ”Climate Change: bring it on!” and “The revolution will not be accredited”. For more information on the VBC go to their website here .

Don’t miss Andy and Liora on the Laura Fox Radio Show from Visionary Culture on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. PST. Check out the shows archives if you missed any of there inspiring programs.

It’s at times like these that I wish the continent wasn’t quite so wide, the west coast so intangible to my east coast grounding!
