Prospective Learners

Welcome to Gaia University!

Are you ready to embark on a challenging adventure in which un-learning is possibly as important as learning?

Are you ready to put your passion, vision, and dreams to work in an active, productive way to meet both your own goals and the needs of the Earth?

If your heart sings when you imagine a more sustainable, just, and peaceful world, if you are ready to step forward to contribute your "grain of sand" to the emergence of this vision, then Gaia University can offer you the support you need to manifest your dreams.

Our Programs and Pathways

Gaia University offers Bachelors and Masters degree programs as well as Post-Masters Graduate Diplomas. We will soon be offering Doctoral degrees as well. People who have done a Masters degree or Post Masters Diploma with Gaia University will be eligible for the Doctoral program, expected to begin in 2009.

One of the significant aspects of Gaia University is that entrance into a Bachelors or Masters level program is less dependent on prior formal education as on experience and the level of strategic responsibility a prospective learner is taking for the "whole."

If you believe you qualify for Accreditation for Prior Learning and Experience (APL & E), please indicate so on your application form.

How Gaia U Works

Current Gaia U International programs begin with a 7 day Orientation and a 4 day content-focused extension. These residential workshops are held at one of our learning centers. See Dates and Venues for Bachelors and Masters and Post-Masters Diplomas for further details.

After the residential workshops, associates return "home" to work on the projects they have self-designed with the assistance of their Process and Project Design Advisors. Some associates may stay on in the learning center as apprentices or travel to other learning centers to do their project work. Some associates will return to their work and continue to do their projects while engaged in income producing activities.

Learning to be an effective documenter is one of the key goals of an associate's study time with Gaia University. The capacity to articulately share our knowledge and experience is a key tool for positive world change. During each year, an associate is responsible for completing 6 output packets which describe the content and process of their learning and unlearning. These output packages are uploaded onto our Gaia U E-Learning site (GEL site) and are both self and advisor reviewed. Output packages can include any media which can be viewed over the internet.

For effective support, evaluation and accreditation, all learners will be connected to international advisors who are themselves graduates of Gaia University. These advisors meet regularly with associates by telephone or skype and are an important part of the support network to which each associate is connected. In addition an associate may use a budget that is allocated from her tuition fees to contract Specialist Advisors for added content support.

Each associate is also part of a peer group, known as an Action Learning Guild. These groups meet virtually at least monthly to share successes and challenges. Our GEL site also provides Forums and other learning spaces by means of which the international Gaia U network may share information and experiences.

At the end of each learning year, associates again gather together for a residential intensive during which they share their years' project work and either graduate or attend a new content workshop as the beginning of their next year's program. A good deal of fun is always on the agenda!
